Will We?

In the story of Lewis and Clark, the explorers were commissioned to find a waterway connecting the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean. They set out with canoes, fully expecting to navigate rivers all the way. Instead, they encountered the Rocky Mountains. Suddenly, everything they had prepared for was useless. They faced a choice: turn back or adapt to the new reality before them.

Like Lewis and Clark, we often embark on our spiritual journey with certain expectations and tools. But as we climb the mountain with Jesus, we may find that our 'canoes' - our preconceptions, our comfort zones, our familiar ways of thinking - no longer serve us. The world we thought we were in may be nothing like the world we actually inhabit. It's in these moments that our willingness is truly tested.

Are we willing to leave behind what no longer serves us? Are we ready to adapt to the new terrain Jesus is leading us through? The Sermon on the Mount challenges us to build our lives on something solid, unshakeable - the rock of Christ's teachings, rather than the shifting sands of worldly wisdom or our own limited understanding.

As we contemplate this spiritual mountain climb, we're faced with a simple yet profound question: Will we? Will we take up the challenge to not just hear Jesus' words, but to put them into practice? Will we be willing to struggle, to adapt, to grow as we ascend this mountain with Him?
