Travis Akins

Minister

Travis Akins is our minister serving in all areas of leadership, planning and visioning for Heritage while also preaching and teaching. Previously, Travis was the Young Adults Minister for our planting church Memorial Road. He served there for 5 1/2 years before transitioning to Heritage full-time in the Summer of 2018.

Before moving to Edmond, Travis served as the Preaching Minister at the North Main Church of Christ in Winters, Texas. His first ministry was as the Youth Minister for the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Arlington, Texas. He received his BA in Youth and Family Ministry and his MA in Christian Ministry from Abilene Christian University.

Travis and Laura have been married for 18 years spending their entire adult lives in congregational ministry. They have four kids- three daughters, Reese (17), Lucy (14) and Scout (9); and one son, Wiley (10).

His weekends are packed with family time, Texas Rangers Baseball, playing games with four children, coaching club volleyball, yard work and attempting to take a nap. He enjoys performing improv comedy on the rare times he is able, but typically ends up performing for his kids. Back in the spring of 2011, he and his wife Laura became foster parents. They believed they could minister to children in need of love and stability. Over ten years, they fostered 11 children and discovered more about themselves than they ever knew before. They currently do not foster as they attempt to keep up with the lives of two teenage daughters, two elementary children and previous foster children.

While busy with sports, social activities and all things school, they value time together and dinners at the table with all six present. They Akins live by one house rule: "Love others. And start with the people in this house."
